Situation: in the wake of George Floyd and the #BlackLivesMatter movement, the TV + Film industries made public promises to increase visibility and opportunites for black stories and talent.

Opportunity: by leveraging exhaustive data around the cast and directors/creators of films and series, Matt helped pen the Diversity Progress Report series for Luminate. In creating visibility into the representation of a wide array of diverse communities - this thought leadership series could hold industry accountable for the diversity and inclusion promises they made.

Results: This report series focused on the change in representation of diverse talent in front of and behind the camera - both for film and series. While the report series found initial increases in representation in the first 18 months of the pandemic, as public attention turned to other issues in 2022 the visibility of most underrepresented audiences decreased.

The reports were leveraged to :

• engage clients in industry-wide conversations

• build webinars and conference panels (including SXSW)

• create widespread press coverage
